In 2021 Character Design Quarterly magazine invited me to create a short article on how to express emotions. To explore the emotions of characters, you must first of all understand the shapes that compose the design and learn how to use, modify and break them according to the intensity of the feeling. In animation each character must play a role, so each one must have its own way of expressing itself (your main character's fear may be different from your villain's). You must also analyze the tones of each emotion, feeling trusted with arrogance can be different from feeling trusted and relaxed.
